Next season
For 2009 the CB500 cup is no more and has been
replaced by the new Thundersport500. The class had seen little effort
put in to promoting it over the last few years and the riders thought it
was time for a change and to give the series a new lease of life. With a
vote on the forum returning a 100% majority in favour of racing with the
exciting new ThundersportGB series. Their willingness to welcome us to
there very professional outfit and the passion they clearly have for
motorcycle racing and giving the riders and spectators exactly what they
want meant it was a very simple decision.
The class has now been expanded to Include the
Suzuki GS500 and Kawasaki ER500, both 500cc parallel twin four strokes,
similar to the CB500. The series will also be Televised on Motors TV,
with a two hour programe showing all race highlights, with podium
presentations and interviews with riders shown a week or two after each
round then repeated several times throughout the week.
New bike
last years No.1 bike, which was badly damaged
in the Anglesey crash, after further inspection has been scrapped and I
have purchased another CB500 to replace it. The bike requires a lot of
work to get it up to race spec which should keep me busy over the winter
months. The No.2 bike which I used for the remainder of the season was
also damaged in the Donnington crash and will also need rebuilding for
next year. They will both be coming back with a completely new colour
scheme which I hope to have a few pictures of as soon as one of the
bikes nears completion. In the mean time I'm working hard to try and
obtain some sponsorship for next year as a full 16 round championship
will be very expensive in terms of entry fee's but I'm hoping the TV
exposure will encourage sponsors to invest in the team.
