History and origins on Cloud and Aerith's names. Credit goes to www.kabalarians.com.
Your name of Cloud has given you an idealistic nature with a desire to help others. Your initiative often causes you to be the first to act when you see a need. Since you are impressionable and receptive, you feel the misfortunes of others very keenly. However, this name makes it awkward for you to express your deeper thoughts and feelings with finesse and diplomacy to the extent that your candid, sometimes blunt, manner of speaking creates misunderstandings with others. Being somewhat self-centred, you learn through your own experiences, as you rarely take advice from others. Yet, you are sensitive and very easily hurt and offended. You long for praise and appreciation for your efforts, but others find it difficult to understand you.

For those who have played the Japanese version of Final Fantasy VII, have called Aeris, "Aerith." And even though many of those who have played the English version, do the same. Neither names of "Aeris" or "Aerith" are wrong. In Kingdom Hearts they did officially change her name back to Aerith. Which is silly to me. Why'd they even bother changing her name to Aeris in the first place?
A big big thanks to Anonymous N. Forgives for a lot of the following information!!
The name "Aerith" is still pronounced the same as "Aeris." The last character in her name is "su" which is replaced by "th." Originally, she was supposed to be given the name "Earith" and in which her name is a transliteration of "Earth." So it would make sense since one of her limit breaks is "Breath of the Earth." In Japanese, Earth is Earisu, and is best Romanised as Aerith/Aeris. Additional information similiar to the names of Aerith and Aeris would include a Greek Goddess by the name of Eris, whom was the Goddess of discord and strife.
The official pronounciation of "Aeris" is AIR-RISS, not "aries" as many people I've met in real life call her. And Aerith's pronounciation is "AIR-RITH." I read somewhere on a website a long time ago, that the pronounciation to "Aerith" is "air-riff", which isn't true.
